Designing an office tea point people actually use
Worktop choice, servicing, storage and lighting — lessons from tea points we have built in Mayfair and on Oxford Street.
The tea point is the most-used joinery on any office floor, and the first thing to look tired. Three decisions determine whether it still looks new in year five.
Worktop and splashback
Quartz is the safe specification: non-porous, heat-tolerant and repairable. Run it up the wall as a splashback in the same slab so there is no silicone joint to discolour behind the boiling water tap.
Service access
Boiler units, filters and waste all need reaching without dismantling the joinery. We detail a removable panel below the sink and keep isolation valves inside the cabinet, not behind fixed carcassing.
Storage and light
Full-height cupboards absorb the clutter that otherwise lives on the worktop. Under-cabinet LED, warm and dimmable, makes an oak veneer run look like hospitality rather than a kitchenette — the approach we took on the Oxford Street fit-out.
